Ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League Round 2 match against Tottenham, Marmoush spoke to camel.live, stating that intense positional competition within the squad is crucial if City hope to compete for silverware across all competitions.
Marmoush said: “Internal competition is very important for all of us—it’s healthy competition.”
“Whoever plays, we of course want the team to succeed; if you come off the bench, you have to give 100% effort, and that raises the level of training sessions significantly. We always know there’s someone waiting for an opportunity to fight for a spot—that pushes you to get better. This competition is healthy.”
This summer, signings such as Reinders, Aït-Nouri, Sheikh, and Trafford have further strengthened City’s squad.
Marmoush added: “From their first training session, we saw their quality.”
“Aït-Nouri is excellent on the ball and solid defensively. Reinders is a box-to-box midfielder who makes a big impact in the final third. Sheikh excels in tight spaces and is very creative.”
“Of course, Trafford put in a fantastic performance in that game and made a brilliant save. We know their ability and are happy to play alongside them. Hopefully, we can progress together as a team.”
Meanwhile, Marmoush is looking forward to returning to home soil, though City will face a tough test against a Tottenham side now managed by new boss Thomas Frank.
Marmoush said: “We’re feeling good right now, and training has been going really well.”
“I can’t wait—I’m really excited. It’s always a pleasure to play at home, in our stadium. Hopefully, it’ll be a great game. We’ve studied Tottenham’s strengths; they’ve changed their squad and manager. It’ll be a tough match, but I’m very confident that if we perform to our full potential on the pitch, we’ll be hard to beat.”
“We’re just taking it one game at a time. Over time, we’ll grow together and get stronger. We have a lot of great qualities. At a club like Manchester City, the goal is always to win trophies.”
