Milan Snap Up Brighton Wingback! Estupiñán Joins, Rossoneri Bolster Left Flank

While the Serie A transfer market continues to buzz over forward targets, AC Milan have quietly sealed a key reinforcement – they’ve signed Ecuadorian left-back Pervis Estupiñán from Brighton, with the speed and assist-minded "wingback" set to inject new energy into the Rossoneri’s left flank.
For Milan, the signing couldn’t have come at a better time. Last season, the left-back position remained a rotational concern; though Theo Hernández performed steadily, a lack of reliable backup exposed fitness shortcomings during multi-competition campaigns. Estupiñán’s arrival, however, is set to spark healthy competition with Theo: the 26-year-old Ecuador international, known for his aggressive defending and pinpoint crosses after surging down the flank, contributed 3 assists in 31 appearances for Brighton last term, his "attacking full-back" style fitting seamlessly with Milan’s offensive setup.
Reports suggest Milan paid around €28 million for Estupiñán, with a contract until 2028. The fee represents solid value given his market worth – Brighton themselves paid €18 million to sign him from Villarreal in 2022, and his stock has only risen after two seasons in the Premier League. For Brighton, letting Estupiñán go continues their "profit-and-reinvest" model – consistently selling key players at fair prices to fund the hunt for emerging talents.
Estupiñán himself is thrilled with the move: "I grew up hearing stories of Milan’s legends, so wearing the red and black jersey is a dream come true. There are great players and coaches here, and I’m eager to prove myself at San Siro." Milan manager Stefano Pioli echoed the optimism: "Estupiñán’s pace and technique will add depth to our tactics. His arrival strengthens our left flank significantly."
Notably, this isn’t Milan’s first defensive reinforcement this summer. Having already signed young center-back Leny Yoro, the addition of Estupiñán underscores the club’s ambition to challenge for the Serie A title and make an impact in the Champions League next season. For Estupiñán, the switch from the Premier League to Serie A, and from the Seagulls to the Rossoneri, isn’t just a league move – it’s a step toward chasing greater glory.
With the Ecuadorian wingback on board, Milan’s left-flank defense and attack are set for an upgrade. Who will claim the starting spot between him and Theo next season? And how many surprises will he bring to the team? The answers may soon unfold on the grass of San Siro.
