Two departures from Inter Miami are nearing completion: midfielder Federico Redondo is set to join La Liga promoted side Elche, while goalkeeper Drake Callender has finalized a move to MLS side Charlotte FC.
It’s reported that Inter Miami has sold 50% ownership of Redondo for $2.5 million, and the 22-year-old midfielder will sign formal once he passes Elche’s medical. Redondo joined Inter Miami from Argentinos Juniors in February 2024 and has since made 57 appearances across all competitions for the club.
Callender’s transfer, however, has been more controversial: Charlotte FC has reached an agreement with Inter Miami, but sources say Callender was surprised by the destination—he was not consulted at all during the process. In fact, other MLS clubs had also shown interest in him.
Charlotte already has last season’s MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Christian Makoun (under contract until 2026, with the club holding a 2027 option), and signing Callender is aimed at further strengthening the goalkeeping position.
For Callender, the exit had been brewing: plagued by injuries at Miami, he lost his starting spot after the arrival of Sebastián Ustari. The club also gave minutes to Ríos Novo this year and signed William Yarbrough, further squeezing his opportunities. The 27-year-old has made just 3 appearances for Miami this season. Despite being a former MLS Goalkeeper of the Year nominee and a regular in US national team training camps, he is yet to earn his first senior cap. Notably, his entire career has been with Miami—he was a starter for three consecutive seasons before this year, regarded as a solid starter in the league.
