After an extremely complex process that dragged on until the final minutes of the transfer window, Al Nassr failed to submit the transfer documents for Aymeric Laporte on time. With the transfer management system already closed, Athletic Bilbao cannot register the player in this summer transfer window.
Athletic Bilbao has been working to resolve this issue since Monday, but in reality, Laporte’s situation is similar to that of David De Gea, whose transfer to Real Madrid fell through in 2015. If FIFA does not grant approval, Athletic Bilbao may have to wait until the winter transfer window to re-sign Laporte. Currently, FIFA and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) are reviewing the documents and are expected to issue a final response in the coming days.
