A confrontation broke out between Enrique and Chelsea player João Pedro in the final moments of the Club World Cup match between Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain.
Initially, under the Club World Cup's own regulations, disciplinary penalties incurred during the tournament do not have consequences for other competitions. The tournament's rules clearly state: “Pursuant to Article 74 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, any suspension that may result therefrom, any suspension arising from a red card (direct or indirect) for a player or coach... shall not carry over to other competitions.”
However, the report from the FIFA match coordinator will ultimately play a crucial role. If FIFA's regulations and its disciplinary code are applied, he will face at least a 3-match ban.
Article 2, Section 2 of the disciplinary code explicitly stipulates that, “In the case of an assault (including elbowing, punching, kicking, biting, spitting, or striking) against an opponent or other non-match official, a minimum penalty or appropriate duration shall be imposed.”
In other words, it now depends on whether the FIFA Disciplinary Committee will initiate an investigation process and impose sanctions on Enrique.
