After VAR review, the referee overturned the initial decision to show Anthony Gordon a yellow card.
The referee stated: "After verification, Newcastle United's No. 10 player (Anthony Gordon) committed a serious foul. The movement of this foul was fast-paced and involved obvious contact with Liverpool's No. 4 player's calf. The final decision is to show a red card to Newcastle United's No. 10 player."
