Isak's agent has informed Newcastle that the Swedish striker does not want to play for the club again and hopes to push for a transfer to Liverpool. This has been accelerated after manager Eddie Howe decided to have Isak train alone, with Howe admitting last weekend that the player was not in the right mindset to be considered for the club's pre-season matchday squad.
Despite the threat of refusing to train, Newcastle have not yet received a formal transfer request from the player, though this could change in the coming days if Isak insists he has played his last game for the club.
Although Isak's attitude and behavior have been very poor, Newcastle have chosen not to fine the player for his actions, though they have the right to do so if he continues to refuse to play after the season starts. They are also confused by the threat that he will no longer play for the club, even if a transfer to Liverpool is rejected, as he has three years left on his contract and there is a World Cup next summer.
When asked about Isak's future last weekend, Eddie Howe hinted that the player had refused to train or play without specifying, instead stating that the player was not in the right mindset to participate as he would have liked.
Newcastle have firmly maintained throughout the summer that the 25-year-old is not for sale, but given the striker's erratic behavior, they have been forced to at least consider the terms of his departure.
The two conditions for them to allow Isak to leave are Liverpool offering around £150 million and the club being able to sign two strikers to replace him.
