Erik ten Hag has officially ruled out the possibility of succeeding sacked Ajax manager John Heitinga. The former Ajax boss has dismissed a return, believing there is a lack of foundation for successful cooperation in the short term.

The ex-Manchester United manager has been linked with a return to the dugout in recent weeks. Initially, there were reports that he could take charge of Wolves, but the Premier League's bottom club ultimately opted for Rob Edwards.

Subsequently, after Dutch giants Ajax sacked John Heitinga, who had been in charge for less than six months, Ten Hag was linked with a return. He has now declined to take over the Ajax hotseat.

It is understood that the 55-year-old coach held informal talks with technical director Alex Kroes about the prospect of a return. Ten Hag expressed concerns about the instability in the club's management.

Ten Hag held in-depth talks with Ajax technical director Alex Kroes last Monday, but Ajax must now turn to other candidates. Notably, Kroes has offered to resign as director following Heitinga's dismissal—meaning, in addition to on-field struggles, the club's management is also fraught with uncertainty.

Fred Grim took charge as interim manager for last weekend's league match against Utrecht (a 2-1 defeat). The caretaker boss said after the game that he was unsure whether he would continue to lead the Amsterdam giant after the international break.
