Inter Milan’s summer transfer spree isn’t over yet – despite sealing four deals, manager Simone Zivkovic is still waiting for a defensive midfielder to join, with Genoa’s Danish international Morten Frendrup and Belgian midfielder Mandela Keita emerging as key targets for the Nerazzurri.
This summer, Inter have been busy in the transfer market: €6.3 million to make Filip Zalewski’s loan permanent, strengthening the left flank; €14 million for Lovro Majer to add midfield energy; and two €23 million deals for Luis Henrique and Yann Bony to boost attack and defense. They also retained young talent Pio Esposito after his loan spell and kept midfield linchpin Hakan Calhanoglu amid exit rumors, while chasing Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman.
But there’s still a missing piece in Zivkovic’s setup: a defensive midfielder who can anchor the midfield. According to Italian media, Inter have zeroed in on two candidates: 23-year-old Frendrup has impressed at Genoa, with 3.1 tackles per Serie A game last season earning him a spot in Denmark’s national team; 25-year-old Keita, meanwhile, comes with a "Zivkovic connection" – he played under the manager at Parma, a familiarity that could speed up his integration.
For Inter, aiming to compete on both Serie A and Champions League fronts, this signing is more than just depth – it’s a boost to midfield solidity. Talks haven’t entered advanced stages yet, but with Zivkovic pushing for the move, the Nerazzurri are likely to accelerate negotiations before the window closes. Will they sign rising star Frendrup or the more familiar Keita? Inter’s search for a midfield enforcer is keeping fans on edge.
