Newcastle United Chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan attended tonight's match against Liverpool, and in the meantime, the club also held a senior management meeting at St. James' Park.
During the meeting, the club put forward an offer to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) player Jorgen Strand Larsson for £50 million. This offer has been rejected by Wolves, but the club is still in negotiations with the latter.
Although no agreement has been reached yet, the negotiations between Newcastle United and Wolves have maintained a positive momentum. The signing of this Norwegian international is not intended to replace Alexander Isak.
Newcastle United will regard Larsson as the replacement for Callum Wilson, who left the club to join West Ham United earlier this summer.
This means that Isak will either stay at the club or be sold to Liverpool later in the transfer window, so as to secure more funds for the signing of a first-team striker.
Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe clearly stated at a press conference on Friday that the Public Investment Fund (PIF) will not allow the Magpies to enter the new season without a key striker. This implies that Isak's dream of transferring to Liverpool will not be approved unless a replacement is found before the transfer window closes.
