Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has recently responded to Michael Owen’s remarks, in which Owen criticized his move to Bayern Munich and claimed that winning titles in Germany is not an achievement.
Kane said: “I heard it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I’ve spent some time with him, but I don’t know him very well. Obviously, he’s a great player in the Premier League and for England, so I have respect for him as a person. But ultimately, as he knows, everyone’s career is different—everyone’s decisions and motivations are different.”
Earlier, Owen stated: “I didn’t agree with him going to Germany, and I spoke my mind at the time. I still think he’s crazy now—you were so close to becoming the all-time top scorer in Premier League history, and your kids go to school here. I mean, I just can’t wrap my head around it, I can’t. If you were that desperate to win something, you could have stayed at Tottenham Hotspur for one more year and then left. It’s like if you move to Celtic and then win the league title—you can win it every year, but that isn’t a great achievement.”
Kane responded: “I know he implied that I’m only in it for the trophies, but actually, I’m here to maintain the highest level for as long as possible. I’m really happy to be playing in important games, competing for titles, featuring in important Champions League matches, and reaching the FIFA Club World Cup quarter-finals. I feel like I’m improving, I’ve pushed my limits in terms of scoring goals, and everything is moving forward. It’s hard not to hear these things these days, but this decision was the best for me, and I’m glad I made it—I’m very happy at Bayern Munich now.”
