With Barcelona announcing the loan signing of Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford, he becomes the second English player to join Barça after Gary Lineker. However, in the new season, Rashford will encounter a familiar opponent in La Liga: former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, who transferred to Real Madrid this summer.
Rashford came through Manchester United's youth academy, while Alexander-Arnold graduated from Liverpool's youth system. The two clubs have long been fierce rivals in the Premier League. This summer, both players moved to La Liga, joining Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively, once again playing for rival clubs.
But on the international stage, Rashford and Alexander-Arnold are teammates for England, having represented the national team together at the European Championship and World Cup.
Rashford received his first England call-up in 2016 and has so far earned 62 caps, scoring 17 goals. Alexander-Arnold, who was first called up by England in 2018, has made 34 appearances for the Three Lions, netting 4 goals.
